SOPHiA GENETICS

Legal Counsel- Boston, USA

The legal profession is an exciting one. While most of your friends would run away at the thought of reading a lengthy contract, you’re thrilled at the possibility of finding a red flag that wasn’t spotted before. While most people would rather watch a good show on Netflix, you can’t because the second edition of your favorite law treaty has just come out. You also can’t wait to get to the library to dust up this old 1898 collection of statutes, knowing full well that you could just go on Westlaw to read it, but a paper book is so much better.

SOPHiA GENETICS, a dynamic MedTech start-up, is looking for such a passionate person to join its legal team. As an integral part of the team, working in close collaboration with the Senior Counsel, you would be involved in a flurry of projects, probably too hectic to put down intelligibly on paper. To give you a general idea of the main aspects of your role, you would:

-       Be involved in the management and negotiation of contracts:

-       Provide legal and project management support in financial transactions and projects, corporate structuring, and other projects with legal implications;

-       Research and provide general legal advice on healthcare laws and other legal inquiries such as the Anti-kickback statute, Sunshine Act, HIPAA, False Claims Act, IP/IT laws and competition law;

-       Draft internal policies and procedures;

-       Ensure compliance with laws and regulations in various countries. Following the developments of laws and regulations in countries in which SOPHiA GENETICS operates;

-       Coordination of the company’s engagement with external law firms;

-       Knowledge management: ensure to keep abreast of legal developments and report to the legal team of new developments;

-       Assist the legal team in day-to-day matters.
